Sports

Special Olympics Ontario Kitchener-Waterloo offers training throughout the year in 16 sports with 20 sport clubs. The programs are designed to provide athletes with the increased skill and fitness level which result from regular physical activity and may lead to competition at levels including local, regional, provincial, national, and even world games. All of our athletes benefit from the social interaction with their teammates and many find that their self-confidence is improved as a result of their achievements both in practice and in competition.

Our current program schedule is shown under Registration on the left side. For more information about any program, please contact Ellen Libertini, our Registrar.

Many of our programs are structured to provide two levels of training. Athletes of all ability levels are welcomed into the programs to receive the appropriate level of training and coaching. Please note that athletes who require one-on-one support must be accompanied by a member of their support network. Most sports work with small groups of athletes with one coach for every four athletes.

Some important notes:

  • Each program charges a registration fee, which is used to rent facilities and provide equipment where appropriate.

  • Equipment necessary to participate is identified on the Sport Programs list.

  • Some programs may have a limit on the number of participants and therefore are unable to accept new registrations.
